Ring Nebula
The Ring Nebula is the shed outer layers of a dying Sun-like star, about 2,500 light-years away.
The Ring Nebula (M57) is a planetary nebula in the constellation Lyra, about 2,500 light-years from Earth. It is the shell of gas cast off by a Sun-like star at the end of its life, lit up by the hot central star that is on its way to becoming a white dwarf. An archetypal planetary nebula visible in small telescopes, it was imaged in intricate detail by the James Webb Space Telescope in August 2023.
